Abstract:

An analysis of the results of randomized controlled trials evaluating the effect of acupuncture on the regulation of sex hormones (luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, estradiol, and testosterone) in women with gynecological pathology compared with that of drug therapy is presented. A search of the PubMed and CNKI databases revealed 11 publications that examined the effectiveness of acupuncture in women with gynecological diseases. Summarized results showed that in patients with premature ovarian failure, decreased ovarian reserve, polycystic ovary syndrome, climacteric syndrome, acupuncture has a regulating effect on the levels of hormones of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis hormones that was comparable with the drug therapy but with fewer side effects.
