OBJECTIVE
To study the attitude of menopausal women to the manifestations of menopausal syndrome and methods of hormonal correction in the age aspect in a large center of Western Siberia.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A study was conducted on the manifestations of menopausal syndrome (MS) and methods of their correction in women of different ages using an anonymous electronic questionnaire. 170 respondents with complaints of menopausal symptoms took part in the survey. After which the women were divided into 5 research groups: the age of the women in group A was 40—45 years, in group B — 46—50 years old, in group C — 51—55 years old, in group D — 56—60 years old, in group D — 61 years old and older.
RESULTS
Among women who sought medical help, menopause occurred on time in 75.8%. Early menopause, among all those who complained of menopausal disorders, occurred in 17.1% of women, late menopause in 7.1%, and 65.9% of patients had moderate and severe MS. Severe menopausal disorders are more often noted at the age of 51—55 years. Vasomotor and psychoemotional symptoms predominated in the group of women with early menopause and in women aged 46—55 years, while urogenital symptoms begin to appear after the age of 51 years and the first symptom is most often vaginal dryness. Musculoskeletal symptoms also begin to appear in women after the age of 51, and the first manifestation is most often arthralgia. Despite the severity and progression of the symptoms of menopausal syndrome, not all patients with indications for hormonal treatment and no contraindications used menopausal hormone therapy (MHT): in total, 26.9% received treatment with MHT drugs.
CONCLUSIONS
Starting from the menopausal transition, women need special attention and health care. In order to effectively prevent the irreversible consequences of estrogen deficiency, it is very important not to miss the moment of the very first pathological changes in the female body. MHT prescribed within the therapeutic window of opportunity provides protective effects and fully complies with the concept of eu-estrogenemia.
