Abstract:

The aim — of this study is to investigate the ratio of proinflammatory to anti-inflammatory cytokines in placental insufficiency, which develops in the third trimester of pregnancy and is accompanied by a delay in fetal growth. Material and methods. The main group consisted of 33 pregnant women at the age of 29.1±0.9 years who had a gestation period of 33.7±0.5 weeks and were diagnosed with chronic secondary compensated fetal placental insufficiency with fetal growth retardation. The control group included 25 nominally healthy pregnant women of the same age with similar lengths of gestation. All the pregnant women underwent a full complement of clinical and laboratory examinations, including ultrasound, cardiotocography and Doppler examinations. The concentration ratios of proinflammatory (interleukin-8, interleukin-6, interferon-γ) and anti-inflammatory (interleukin-4, interleukin-10) cytokines and autoantibodies to native DNA was determined in blood serum analysis. Results. Patients of the main group were found to have a change in the level of both anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory cytokines, reflecting the important role of the cytokine circuit in placental insufficiency and fetal growth retardation. The influence of the makeup of the cytokines on placenta and fetal growth is presented. Conclusion. The conducted research reveals new pathogenetic features of placental insufficiency development and fetal growth retardation. Determination of the concentration of interleukin-6 as an indicator of fetal growth retardation can be recommended for implementation in clinical practice.
