Objective — to improve quality of life in patients with premenstrual and menopausal syndromes. Subject and methods. A prospective randomized study including 60 subjects was conducted. The patients were divided into 2 groups: 1) women with premenstrual syndrome; 2) those with menopausal syndrome. Three-month therapy with melatonin 3 mg daily was performed. The time course of psychoemotional changes was estimated using the specialized self-assessment scales: the Spielberg-Hanin test, the Vein questionnaire, the modified Kupperman menopausal index, and the subjective premenstrual syndrome assessment scale. Hormonal examination was made before and 3 months after therapy. Results. Subjective quality of life assessment and anxiety level in patients allow them to be assigned to a high autonomic dysfunction risk group. Three-month melatonin therapy was ascertained to substantially improve life-of-quality indicators in the patients; however, there were no significant changes in hormonal production indicators. Conclusion. It is shown that adaptogens (melatonin) may be used as part of combination therapy and monotherapy for the mild or moderate manifestations of premenstrual and menopausal syndromes.
