The aim of this study was to review existing methods of dentin application as a bone graft material for ridge augmentation. Results. Dentin may be used both in the form of blocks and in the form of crushed chips. Pores with a diameter of more than 500 μm created in the block contribute to cell and capillary invasion, which reduces graft integration time. Dentin shredded into shavings can be used to preserve the alveolus after the tooth extraction operation. The decrease of mineral component percent of dentin by exposure to weak acid solutions accelerates the process of osteoinduction, since the mineral component of the bone requires a longer time for osteoclastic resorption. It’s also possible to use teeth with roots sealed with calcium hydroxide-based material as a bone material. Conclusions. the similar mineral and organic composition of dentin and bone tissue, close structure and tissue development process, the presence of growth factors and proteins involved in the mineralization of the matrix provide dentin resorption. This, in turn, would result in dentin replacement by native bone. Studies demonstrate a high potential for dentin application as a bone graft in almost any way. The related antigenic composition of dentin protein components doesn’t provoke a pathological inflammation and contributes to the full entry of dentin into the bone remodeling process. Thus, dentin of extracted teeth is considered to be additional source of osteoplastic material.
