Introduction. The problem of disorders of the climacteric is relevant to women all over the world. During this period, irreversible changes in the hormonal function of the ovaries occur and the concentration of estrogen decreases. Since the oral mucosa contains estrogen receptors, hormonal changes can manifest themselves directly in the oral cavity. Purpose of the study — to improve the quality of diagnostic tools for pre — and post-menopausal women based on a determination (by the polymerase chain reaction method) of the qualitative composition of the oral microflora and the pH of mixed secretion in periodontitis. Material and methods. A prospective cohort non-randomized study included 20 women in menopause, 10 of whom were premenopausal women (45 to 50 years old) and 10 of whom were postmenopausal women (51 to 59 years old). To identify the pathogens, the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method was used, and the pH of the mixed secretion and the periodontal index (PI) were measured. Results. The study revealed that the severity of periodontal status worsens with age (from 45—50 years, the average value of the PI index is 0,8; from 51—59 years, the average value of the PI index is 2.5). This increases the frequency of occurrence of pathogens (Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia) and a shift of the pH of the mixed secretion to the acidic side (6—6.5). These data indicate a correlation between the qualitative composition of oral microflora and the progression of periodontal disease in women in menopause.
