The present study confirmed the impracticability, due to the absence of the necessary anatomic landmarks, of the analysis of the position of the upper jaw plane in the patients with congenital and acquired asymmetric deformation of the facial skeleton in combination with defects of the ramus of the mandible, auricular aplasia, and atresia of the external auditory canal for the purpose of transposition of the articulator with the use of the face-bow and determination of the Camper plane. The application of the HIP plane analyzer designed by S.I. Shestopalov at the Department of Pediatric Surgical Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery allowed for the first time to objectively estimate the position of the upper jaw plane in a group of patients presenting with complex hemifacial microsomia, Goldenhar syndrome, and Treacher-Collins-Franceschetti syndrome. The study showed that this device can be used intraoperatively during orthognathic surgery without the first surgical template. It is concluded that the HIP plane analyzer is a unique tool for the objective evaluation of the position of the upper jaw plane in the patients presenting with congenital and acquired asymmetric deformation of the facial skeleton.
