INTRODUCTION
Currently, digital healthcare technologies (DHT) are used in the presentation and exchange of public health data, all levels preventive interventions’ recommendations and the results of their effectiveness. Electronic medical cards (EMCs) are one of the most important formats for the presentation and exchange of such data.
OBJECTIVE
To analyze data on the present and future possibilities of the EMC using in the era of DHT.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
The articles, manuals and strategic documents published in the period from the 2011 to June 2024 and available in electronic citation databases on the use of EMCs were analyzed. The search for relevant materials was carried out by keywords: digital technologies, healthcare, disease prevention, electronic medical records, patient, and public health literacy.
RESULTS
Electronic medical cards represent a digitized version of medical records, contain health and medical intervention data necessary for remote exchange and targeted medical care to the population. At the same time, by increasing adherence to taking medications, promoting proper self-use of diagnostic and treatment methods, the patients’ possibilities in diseases self-control are expanded. For the effective EMCs use, optimization of contacts between patients and their relatives with healthcare professionals, the important conditions are: the availability of their rights to EMCs access, the placement and transmission of medical data in electronic format, as well as confidentiality and protection of personal data by the relevant legislation.
CONCLUSION
The use and promotion of EMCs with multi- and interdisciplinary cooperation, taking into account the changes in the healthcare system and the DHT, will improve the quality of medical care, contribute to early prevention of the development and progression of many diseases, preserve health and increase the well-being of the population.
