Obstetric complications and adverse pregnancy outcomes, including hypertensive abnormalities of pregnancy, gestational diabetes mellitus, premature birth, habitual abortion increase the risk of developing cardiovascular and metabolic diseases in women subsequently. The presence of these pregnancy outcomes in medical history should be a valid reason to assess cardiometabolic risk and to carry out primary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. An important issue is the modification of lifestyle since the postpartum period through the whole life. Lactation and breast feeding can also reduce cardiovascular risk in woman. An increasing number of scientific articles, manuals and guidelines on effective prevention and screening strategies of cardiometabolic diseases’ prevention after adverse pregnancy outcomes have been published in recent years. However, these guidelines are developed within standards of practice in developed countries and may often not be used in developing countries due to different conditions of health care system. Thus, several solutions aimed at reducing cardiometabolic risk in women with adverse pregnancy outcomes have been proposed for implementation in the health system.
