Maternity and child welfare service is one of the key areas of the national project “Demography”. Nevertheless, there are no large-scale medical and statistical studies with an analysis of the trends of pregnancy and labor complications. The incidence of such complications tends to increase while total number of births are decreasing.
OBJECTIVE
To assess the morbidity of pregnant, parturient, and postpartum women, taking into account geographic differences, and to identify correlational relationships.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
The trend parameters for 85 constituent entities of the Russian Federation for the period 2016-2018 was calculated according to federal statistical monitoring forms No. 32 (increase/decrease rates and χ2 test for the trend) and nonparametric Spearman’s correlation coefficient (r) at p<0.05.
RESULTS
Over the study period, the percentage of normal births decreased (by 2.9%), the rates of certain pregnancy and labor complications increased, including venous complications, anemia, and diabetes mellitus. A significant geographical variability of the most morbidity rates in the studied groups was observed, and for some clinical entities the differences between the regions reached. Correlation analysis showed certain statistically significant relationships between diseases of pregnant women and complications of pregnancy and labor.
CONCLUSION
The analysis of morbidity in pregnant, parturient and postpartum women showed significant geographical variability with increase of morbidity rates of some clinical entities nationwide. The observed differences in the registered morbidity between the regions may indicate different approaches to the diagnosis and recording of such conditions.
