Numerous population studies confirm an increase of the frequency of suboptimal health status (SHS), which becomes one of the main health problems, since this condition reduces the quality of life and is an early harbinger of the development of socially significant chronic non-infectious diseases.
OBJECTIVE
To determine the symptomatic pattern of suboptimal health status (SHS) for students and the leading lifestyle factors that form it.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
595 students of Universities (1—6 educational course) at the age of 18—23 y.o. were observed on the presence and intensity of SHS symptoms by examining the functional conditions of the autonomic and central nervous systems, the level of functional reserves and biological adaptation, and nutritional status on hardware and software systems, as well as quality and lifestyle questionnaire method.
RESULTS
From 30 to 50% of the students had various manifestations of suboptimal health status. They are characterized by a decrease in the functional state of the central nervous system, changes in autonomic status and impaired nutritional status, decrease of performance, functional reserves and adaptive capabilities of an organism, as well as the subjective sensation of reduced vitality and increased contribution of the emotional condition in the performance of daily functions in conditions of high tension of learning activity, unsustainable recreation and a high adherence to such behavioral risk factors hazardous to health as tobacco smoking, alcohol consumption and irrational daily routine based on long-term use of modern audio-visual devices.
CONCLUSION
A high percentage of students with various of SHS symptoms and their intensity necessitates the need to consider inclusion of methods that determine the symptomatic pattern of SHS in screening diagnostics of students’ health status.
