Students are regarded as an «application point» for effective preventive measures in the framework of fight against chronic noncommunicable diseases (CND). In this regard, it is important to establish the characteristics of frequency of risk factors (RF) of CND depending on the level of education received, the direction of training and gender aspects of students.
AIM OF STUDY
To establish the characteristics of frequency of RF of CND among students depending on gender, level of education and area of study.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
3745 pupils and students of Tomsk who received secondary vocational and higher education in various areas of training from 2016 to 2019 were examined. We studied the peculiarities of behavioral (tobacco smoking, poor nutrition, alcohol consumption, low physical activity) and metabolic (overweight/obesity, arterial hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, hyperglycemia) FR of CND.
RESULTS
Gender characteristics of frequency of RF of CND have been established. Among male and female students, smoking, arterial hypertension, and overweight/obesity were more likely to be detected, and girls were more prone to physical inactivity, alcohol use and hypercholesterolemia. Differences in the frequency of some RFs depending on the level of education were also revealed. University students were more likely to drink alcohol and eat irrationally, and among students in technical schools and colleges there were 2 times more smokers. Hypercholesterolemia and hyperglycemia were more common among university students. The university profile was not associated with differences in the frequency of alcohol consumption, poor nutrition, smoking, hyperglycemia, overweight / obesity and hypertension, however, medical students, in comparison with students of technical and pedagogical specialties, were more likely to experience physical inactivity and hypercholesterolemia
CONCLUSIONS
The revealed frequency features of main RF of CND can contribute to the development of differentiated prevention programs for pupils of various types of educational institutions and areas of training.
