In the article discusses the problem of hypoglycemic conditions in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Presented current data on the epidemiology of diabetes mellitus and hypoglycemic episodes in this category of patients. From the evidence-based medicine point of view, taking into account metaanalyzes, systematic reviews and clinical studies, we discuss symptoms of hypoglycemia in the elderly, its relationship with cardiovascular complications and main geriatric syndromes and conditions such as senile asthenia, cognitive impairment, dementia, falls and fractures and sarcopenia. Possible approaches to minimizing the risk of developing hypoglycemic episodes and the principles of their prevention are considered.
