Aim: To compare the prevalence of dyslipidemia, including hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and hypoalphacholesterolemia in free-living population from Russian regions differing in climate and geography, taking into account age, education and income level, as well as residence place (urban or rural). Material and methods: Randomly selected samples from 13 regions of Russian federation aged 25-64 (total number 21 048, 37,4% of males) were studied according to multicenter ESSE-RF study protocol. Lipid parameters were estimated by routine standardized methods. Results: The prevalence of hypercholesterolemia (total C level ≥ 5.0 mmol/l) composed, at average, 58,4±0,34% ranging from 50% in Kemerovo to 67% in Vladivostok and Voronezh; almost twofold increased with age without significant sex differences excepting Krasnoyarsk; depended neither from education nor from income level and was more frequent among rural population (p<0.001). Low HDL C level was found in 19,5%, ranging from 2,0±0,54% among men and 8,5±1,0% among women from Kemerovo to 29,2±1,9 и 40,1±1,7% among citizens of Orenburg (both sexes). Hypertriglyceridemia was detected in each third man and each fifth woman with minimal figures among women from St. Petersburg (15,7±1,16%), citizens from Kemerovo (22,5±1,63% in men and 16,5±1,24% in women). No marked differences in the hypertriglyceridemia prevalence depending on education and income level were found. Conclusion: The results of the ESSE-RF Study showed the high prevalence of atherogenic dyslipidemias, essential range of values and sex- and age-dependence of the lipid profile disturbances in several regions. These knowledge could be used at cardiovascular risk modeling based on our own epidemiologic data.
