The prognostic value of functional parameters of the right ventricle, right atrium, brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), NT-proBNP, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein was studied in 128 patients (mean age 63.2±1.7 years) with NYHA functional class III-IV chronic heart failure and a left ventricular ejection fraction of more than 50%. The functional parameters of the right ventricle and atrium are strong independent predictors of survival in patients with preserved left ventricular systolic function. The distribution of the patients in accordance with the borderline values of BNP of <300 and ≥300 pg/ml, NT-proBNP of <1500 and ≥1500 pg/ml, and C-reactive protein of <15 and ≥15 ng/ml allows the low and high risk of cardiac death to be identified significantly (p<0.01).
