Objective — to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of iron-containing prescription drug Ferro-Folgamma in treatment of iron deficiency anemia in patients with menorrhagia. Material and methods. We studied 20 women aged 22 to 43 years with iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) and menorrhagia. 16 women had uterine fibroids (four of them with adenomyosis) and four had chronic endometritis. All patients had an mild to moderate degree of IDA. Treatment of IDA was carried out with Ferro-Folgamma 1 capsule per day for seven weeks. Dynamic analysis of hematological and ferrokinetic parameters revealed an increase in the level of hemoglobin from 106,14±8,07 to 124,38±6,78 g/l (р<0,05), serum iron from 6,99±4,67 to 14,70±7,93 Μmol/l (р<0,05), ferritin from 9,14±5,1 to 22,96±9,57 μg/l (р<0,05), the level of hematocrit and the number of erythrocytes by the 7-th week of treatment. Improvement of general condition was observed after three weeks. The levels of bilirubin, ALAT, ASAT and alkaline phosphatase did not change significantly, thus showing no negative effect on liver function. Allergic reactions were not present. Four patients (20%) noted adverse reactions: two (10%) had constipation and nausea, and two women (10%) had pain in the epigastrium. Conclusion. Our data demonstrates high efficiency and good tolerability of Ferro-Folgamma preparation in the treatment of mild to moderate IDA in patients with gynecological diseases and menorrhagia.
