According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), aesthetic beast surgery with implants is the second most common procedure. Widespread primary interventions increased the number of redo surgeries. This is why the issue of secondary mammoplasty is so important and arouses the interest among researchers. Secondary mammoplasty is always a difficult objective. The causes of repeated visits of patients are subjective and objective ones, as well as complications after primary intervention. In this review, we present the problems arising after primary mammoplasty. We analyzed data on the reasons for secondary mammoplasty and methods of its implementation. More than 70 references were estimated from early stages of plastic surgery to the most modern data. Prevention of complications after primary surgery is essential to reduce the incidence of redo surgeries. Preoperative planning including assessment of local status, selection of implants and surgical tactics depending on type of mammoplasty and surgical approach is important. Atraumatic surgical technique with correct positioning of implants and precise manipulations with tissues are equally important. The number of augmentation mammoplasty procedures increases, and we will inevitably encounter more and more redo interventions. Almost every redo surgery presents several problems arising from mistakes after primary intervention and associated with “body-implant” reaction, changes in tissues around the implant over time. These features often require non-standard surgical approaches. There is a need to explore alternative approaches to secondary mammoplasty for stable and predictable postoperative results.
