OBJECTIVE

The aim of the study was to study variants the branching of the portal vein according to computed tomography.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The material for the study was the results of 100 multi-spiral computed tomography (MSCT) of the abdominal organs from the clinics’ archive of the Samara State Medical University for 2018—2019. Based on MSCT data, the «Luch» and «Autoplan» programs, it was performed the mathematical modeling and the creation of three-dimensional models of the vascular bed of the liver. It was studied the portal vein branching and the parameters of the angles formed by the branches and trunk of the portal vein, considering the gender and age of the patients. To determine the type of portal vein, the classification of T. Nakamura, et al. (2002) applied.

RESULTS

According to the classification of portal vein branching by T. Nakamura, et al. (2002) in 72% of patients the classic type of portal vein division into the right and left trunks was revealed. In 20% of patients the true trifurcation was detected — without the main trunk of the right portal vein. In 5% of patients — extrahepatic discharge of the anterior branch of the right portal vein. Based on gender, it was revealed that in men and women, the most common option for dividing the portal vein was its dichotomous division into the right and left trunks. The angle between the right and left branches of the portal vein on average was 121.75±1.37° and ranged from the minimum value of 88° to the maximum of 174°. Differences in the values of this angle in men and women are not statistically significant.
