The paper describes the history of formation and development of the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy, Yaroslavl State Medical University, from 1944 to 1952. Its first employees were teachers of Minsk and Vitebsk Medical Universities, many of whom had participated in combat operations. Biographical facts, memoirs of contemporaries illuminate difficulties in the postwar formation of the Department’s teaching staff.
