Objective — to develop a procedure for anatomical examination of superficial facial cellular tissue compartments using multislice computed tomography (MSCT) to determine geometric parameters (the sizes and volume of the compartments) and cellular tissue density. Material and methods. The investigation used a database of computed tomography scans obtained in 113 patients (60 men and 53 women) aged 14 to 95 years, followed up in Volgograd Regional Clinical Oncology Dispensary One in May 2013 to August 2016. MSCT was performed on a Toshiba Aquilion S16 scanner. Results. The investigation revealed that to achieve optimal results, it was necessary to use two elaborated algorithms to determining 1) the linear sizes of fat compartments and 2) and their volume. It showed the possibilities of using the developed procedures: imaging of cellular tissue spaces in horizontal projections and creation of their three-dimensional reconstruction; estimation of the extension of the compartments with visualization and evaluation of the state of the anatomical structures located in the compartment; measurements of sagittal, frontal, and craniocaudal dimensions; determination of density; and calculation of volume. Conclusion. MSCT is an informative technique for obtaining topographic and diagnostic information on facial cellular tissue areas and can be used in planning therapeutic and cosmetic activities and in assessing the results of surgical interventions. The advantages of MSCT over magnetic resonance imaging are a relatively high resolution due to minimized slice thickness; the comparatively less time and lower cost of examination. The disadvantage of MSCT is radiation exposure.
