Abstract:

The clinical efficacy of remaxol was investigated in patients with Stage III ovarian cancer: during polychemotherapy: 36 patients took dropwise intravenous remaxol (Polysan Company, St. Petersburg, Russia) 400 ml at a rate of 40-60 drops/min (2-3 ml/min) once daily for 5 days; 30 patients (a control group) received polychemotherapy only. The clinical efficacy of the drug was evaluated measuring the content of platelets, monocytes, total protein, albumin, and bilirubin and the activity of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and alkaline phosphatase in the blood. The administration of remaxol to the patients caused significant increases in the blood levels of platelet, monocytes, and bilirubin by 24.3%, 94.6%, 26.3%, respectively, compared with those in the control group. Analysis of the effect of the succinate-containing drug on enzymatic activity revealed that the blood levels of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and alkaline phosphatase were 72.2%, 40.9%, and 48.0% lower, respectively, than those in the controls.

CONCLUSION

The inclusion of remaxol into the treatment regimen for patients with ovarian cancer should be considered pathogenetically justified, clinically reasonable, and promising.
