Abstract:

Objective — to assess the immediate and long-term results of surgical treatment in patients with prostate cancer (PC). Material and methods. The Department of Urologic Oncology, P.A. Herzen Moscow Oncology Research Institute, retrospectively analyzed the database of 1846 patients with PC who had received surgical treatment in 1998 to 2016. It also analyzed preoperative patient characteristics, pathology data, intra- and postoperative complications, as well as the long-term functional and oncological results of surgical treatment. There was a tendency to increase the number of surgically treated patients with PC who had a high risk for disease progression and unfavorable prognostic factors. Conclusion. The accumulation of surgical experience can substantially optimize treatment results in patients with PC and reduce the incidence of complications. The advantages of surgical treatment include accurate staging and detection of adverse pathological factors, which allows the elaboration of a rational treatment policy. It is advisable to consider adjuvant therapy for patients with unfavorable postoperative prognostic factors (the presence of lymphogenic metastases, including those with extracapsular invasion) in order to improve survival rates.
