Objective: to investigate gene expression profiling in breast cancer (BC) tissue for searching for the prognostic factors of local recurrence (LR) and for developing a prognostic model. Material and methods. 91 BC tissue samples obtained from patients after breast-sparing treatment were examined. Out of them, 26 patients were observed to have LR; a comparison group included 65 patients in remission for more than 5 years. Results. The expression of 21 genes was investigated by real-time PCR; the expression levels were determined in the progression and remission groups. The discriminant analysis-based algorithm allows LR to be predicted in 71.4% of cases and to be ruled out in 92.3%. Conclusion. Analysis of the level of gene expressions makes it possible to create an algorithm that can predict the development of LRs after organ-sparing treatment in patients with BC.
