Abstract:

Objective — to evaluate the efficiency and safety of pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy (PIAC) for the palliative treatment of patients with carcinomatosis in gastric cancer. Subjects and methods. The patients were treated in accordance with the adopted protocol. On postoperative days 1 and 3, the safety was evaluated through physical examination and blood collection for routine laboratory tests. The investigation enrolled 18 patients (6 men and 12 women). Their mean age was 54.2 years. Results. Three cases were recorded to have adverse events: nausea without vomiturition in 2 (11.1%) cases during 2 days after PIAC and iatrogenic diaphragmatic perforation in 1 patient during peritoneal biopsy. The median survival was 10 months; one-year survival rate was 53%. At the same time, 9 patients are alive and continue to participate in the investigation during the first year of follow-up. Conclusion. PIAC is a simple, low-invasive, and safe palliative treatment in patients with disseminated carcinomatosis in gastric cancer.
