BACKGROUND
Peritoneal carcinomatosis in children is rare and occurs as a result of the intraperitoneal spread of tumors. Peritoneal carcinomatosis is characterized by extensive damage to the peritoneum, metastases can spread to the abdominal and retroperitoneal lymph nodes, as well as to parenchymal organs such as the liver and spleen. In adult patients, cytoreductive surgery followed by HIPEC and PIPAC techniques can prolong overall and relapse-free survival. The review examines the prospects of using this technology in children.
OBJECTIVE
To evaluate the prospects of using HIPAC and PIPAC in children.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A preliminary review of scientific papers published in 2000—2025 in the bibliographic and abstract databases of peer—reviewed scientific literature SinceDirect, Scopus, RSCI was conducted using the following keywords: peritoneal carcinomatosis in children, peritoneal carcinomatosis in adults, PIPAC, HIPEC in children. 8 publications devoted to the effectiveness of treatment of patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis were selected.
RESULTS
The main method used in children is HIPEC. The incidence of complications and the effectiveness of treatment are similar to the results in adults. However, this procedure is not possible for all patients. In such cases, the use of PIPEC is advisable, which ensures tumor regression and a long relapse-free period.
CONCLUSION
Peritoneal carcinomatosis is a serious problem and requires the development of modern standardized treatment approaches. HIPEC and PIPEC are self-contained methods and can be used interchangeably in certain cases. However, it is necessary to develop a protocol that will allow stratification of patients at different stages of treatment in order to select the appropriate method in a particular case.
