Objective: to retrospectively analyze the results of unique laparoscopic access surgery versus standard laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer. Subjects and methods. The investigation enrolled 110 laparoscopic operations performed in the Medical and Rehabilitation Center in March 2009 to December 2013. Out of them, 44 operations were made using a unique laparoscopic approach (Group 1) and 66 operations by standard laparoscopic technology (Group 2). No statically significant differences were found between the groups in gender, age, body mass index, and tumor site, size, and grade. The SILS port was more commonly used for the unique approach. A transumbilical approach was used to remove an agent and to make an anastomosis. During the standard laparoscopic surgery, the agent was removed via a transversal approach above the pubic hairline. Results. There were no statistically significant differences in the major rated indicators. Severe complications were detected in 16 and 12% of the patients, respectively. The average postoperative length of hospital stay was 7 and 8 days, respectively. There was one fatal outcome in each group. In Groups 1 and 2, the patients’ satisfaction with cosmetic effects (5 and 4 scores) was 98.6 and 96.4%, respectively. Return to usual lifestyle within 3 weeks was noted in 79.0 and 76.8% of the patients, respectively. Conclusion. The unique-access technology used in surgery for colorectal cancer can achieve the results similar to those of standard laparoscopic interventions. Further comparative investigations will be able to clarify the role of this technology in the combination treatment of patients.
