The significant increase in the number of patients with changes in the psychoemotional status among rosacea patients suggests an individual and reasonable approach to the selection of a therapy, including both the topical agents and drugs that improve the psychoemotional state of patients, allowing to use of shorter treatment courses and achieve a more prolonged remission.
OBJECTIVE
To perform correlation analysis between psychological state parameters and dermatological indices in rosacea patients during standard-of-care and antioxidant therapy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Forty-six patients with rosacea were examined. Patients were divided into two groups depending on the administered treatment: 26 rosacea patients (females aged 26 to 54 years, the study group) received a complex antioxidant drug product (inosine + nicotinamide + riboflavin + amber acid) orally 600 mg as succinate (2 tablets) 2 times a day for 21 days, and the standard-of-care; 20 patients (females aged 28 to 52 years, control group) received standard-of-care only.
Results and conclusion. Optimized therapy with antioxidant agents results in a more pronounced improvement of rosacea clinical manifestations in comparison with the control group and has a positive effect on the current psychological state. Assessment of correlations between well-being, activity, mood, and dermatological indices (Dermatology Symptom Scale Index, Dermatology Quality of Life Index, Investigator’s Global Assessment) showed an inverse correlation in all variables pairs, indicating an improvement in psychological state in response to decreased dermatological index values during treatment. Statistical analysis indicates the efficacy of antioxidant therapy in the correction of psychoemotional state parameters in rosacea patients, which is confirmed by our clinical observations.
