Epidemiological aspects of psoriasis in children (in Russian only)

ABSTRACT Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the skin, nails, and joints. Psoriasis affects 2—4% of the world’s population. It is believed that the disease manifests in childhood in about a third of patients. In different countries, the prevalence of childhood and adolescent psoriasis varies from 0.5 to 2%. Current data on the epidemiology of childhood psoriasis significantly differ due to the lack of precise diagnostic criteria, documentation of primary cases of the disease, and unified approaches to estimation of prevalence. Childhood psoriasis differs from adult psoriasis in wide variety of clinical manifestations, which complicates the diagnostic process. The modern features include linear increase in the incidence of pediatric psoriasis with age and the absence of a «double peak» incidence. The incidence of pediatric psoriasis has increased in recent years in both boys and girls. Research show that the prevalence of psoriasis can vary depending on age, geographical area of residence, and the level of urbanization and it is more common in countries located farther from the equator. The incidence of involvement of nail plates in childhood psoriasis is still a disputable and poorly explored question.
