Decrease in systemic immunity and local resistance in patients with lichen planus of the oral mucosa may provide relatively favorable environment for the chronic HPV infection, which is the main exogenous factor that promots tissue restructuring. Objective. The study is aimed at assessing characteristic features of various forms of lichen planus of the oral mucosa in patients with underlying HPV infection. Material and methods. The study included 58 patients with lichen planus of the oral mucosa with disease duration from 3 months to 10 years. Human papilloma virus was detected using polymerase chain reaction. Results. We determined characteristic features of lichen planus of the oral mucosa. The patients with detected HPV infection were most often diagnosed with exudative hyperemic and erosive-ulcerous forms of the disease with short periods of remission. Low level of oral hygiene and early onset of dermatosis were observed in most study group patients.
