Abstract:

Treatment of psoriasis is a very challenging task, implying the choice of the drug, which is not only highly effective and well-tolerated, but also provides a high patient’s compliance with the treatment. The results of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) showed that a fixed combination of calcipotriol and betamethasone dipropionate, which should be administered ones per day, provides significant improvement in symptoms compared not only with placebo, but also with each of the components prescribed as monotherapy. The data of previous Russian retrospective study confirmed the results obtained in RCTs and demonstrated both increased clinical efficacy and cost effectiveness when using the fixed combination of calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate compared to the fixed combination of mometasone furoate/salicylic acid. Currently, the cost of treatment with the fixed combination of calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate is comparable to that of therapy with original mometasone furoate/salicylic acid, and even with generic drug available present at the Russian pharmaceutical market. Therefore, the fixed combination of calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate is a feasible choice in the treatment of mild to moderate psoriasis both from clinical and economical viewpoint.
