Hair loss in clinically and pathologically formed scarring alopecia is always irreversible. For this reason, the early diagnosis of these conditions and timely treatment are of key importance. The article reflects the current understanding of the etiology, pathogenesis, and features of clinical manifestations and diagnosis of a rare variant of primary scarring alopecia, namely frontal fibrosing alopecia. Here we present our own observation of a 64-year-old patient who suffered from this disease, which is one of the first such observations in Russian medical practice. The peculiarity of this case was the combination of this type of scarring alopecia with chronic autoimmune thyroiditis. Active treatment with highly potent topical steroids led to stabilization of the hair loss process.
