The paper discusses the skin barrier dysfunction in atopic dermatitis, which contributes to the addition of bacterial and mycotic microflora. Concomitant mycotic infection is considered as an important factor that aggravates atopic dermatitis. The symptoms of the latter frequently mask the clinical manifestations of fungal infection, which substantially makes its timely diagnosis and treatment difficult. The use of combined topical steroids, Travocort in particular, promotes successful elimination of secondary infection, without worsening concomitant chronic dermatosis.
