Abstract:

Objective — to analyze the impact of smoking on the effectiveness of antiplatelet therapy in patients with cardiovascular diseases. Material and methods. The study included 250 patients aged 60.8±10.0 years who received clopidogrel (70.4% of men and 29.6% of women). Patients were hospitalized in Moscow hospitals for the period from October 2011 to September 2012. Results. We found a significant decrease of platelet aggregation in 7 days after clopidogrel administration in all groups of patients (smokers, non-smokers, and quitters). However, ADP-induced aggregation in 7 days after therapy onset did not show significant effect of smoking on sensitivity to clopidogrel therapy. No significant effect of smoking status on the resistance to clopidogrel therapy was found.
