Abstract:

Aim. To assess cardiac surgery risk in elderly patients. Material and methods. The study included data of 27 patients aged from 75 to 85 years (mean 78.04±2.95 years) who underwent on-pump cardiac surgery for the period 2014—2016. There were 3 (11%) women and 24 men. Most of patients (25, 92.6%) had severe angina or CCS/NYHA functional class III/IV. Coronary lesion was observed in 21 (77.8%) cases. LV ejection fraction less than 50% was recorded in 4 (19.1%) patients with coronary artery disease. Results. Early postoperative mortality was 7.41% (2 patients). According to our data mortality after cardiac surgery in patients older than 75 years is 2.91 times higher compared with younger patients (p 0,05—0,10). Conclusion. The mortality after cardiac surgery is higher in patients over 75 years old compared with younger patients. Age is not a significant risk factor per se but it is associated with more severe comorbidity and therefore increased surgical risk.
