Hypertension is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases. Risk of its complications is directly related to the vessels wall stiffness. Volumetric compressive oscillometry (VCO) is a technique for non-invasive assessment of blood pressure regarding vascular wall elasticity. Diagram of VCO is an indicator of aortic stiffness. Objective. To determine dependence of VCO values and stage of hypertension; to identify the parameters of VCO significantly correlating with presence of complications of hypertension. Material and methods. The study included 70 patients with essential hypertension. Group 1 enrolled 30 patients with hypertension stage 2, group 2 — 40 patients with hypertension stage 3. The study was performed using apparatus АПКО-8-РИЦ. VCO method determines blood pressure by recording the volumetric arterial oscillograms. Analysis of the obtained data allows to define speed and nature of pulse-wave increase and decrease, system resistance, what shows the degree of vascular walls elasticity. Conclusion. VCO determines systolic blood pressure lower than that using the Korotkov method. In case of hypertension stage 3 the degree of systolic blood pressure overstatement was significantly higher than in patients with stage 2 if Korotkov method was applied. System resistance index according to VCO was significantly higher in patients with hypertension stage 3 than those with stage 2. The considerable difference between blood pressure level according to Korotkov method and VCO is an indicator of severe aortic and arterial wall lesion; therefore it is a bad prognostic sign in patients with hypertension. Value of difference between blood pressure according to Korotkov method and VCO determines resistance and stiffness of vascular system.
