Abstract:

32 patients (14 male, 18 female) with valvular heart diseases of rheumatic etiology undergoing mitral and/or aortic valve replacement with mechanic bicuspid grafts were included in the study. Levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and C-reactive protein as well as main biochemical indices of blood in all investigated patients were significantly much higher on the 5-th day after operation indicating leukocyte activation. By the 20-th day after valve replacement level of pro-inflammatory cytokines and C-reactive protein decreased and was statistically significantly lower compared with 5-th day after operation.
