Abstract:

We analyzed literature data on possible impact of elastic compression on the results of sclerotherapy in patients with reticular varicose veins and telangiectasias. Clinical outcomes and quality of life after sclerotherapy were analyzed depending on postoperative compression. In addition, a special attention was paid to such important complications of sclerotherapy as hyperpigmentation and telangiectatic matting. Literature data confirm heterogeneous results regarding clinical effect of compression after sclerotherapy. There still lack of data to draw any robust conclusions. In most studies, compression is recognized as a method improving cosmetic results and reducing the risk of complications such as hyperpigmentation and telangiectatic matting. However, not all studies confirm such effects. Well-planned studies are necessary to evaluate compression therapy in C1 patients.
