Materials and methods. This open single-centre retrospective comparative study involved 75 patients presenting with proximal thrombosis of deep veins of the lower extremities. The patients were divided into three groups. Group 1 was comprised of 23 patients who received the conservative treatment following the standard protocol that included anticoagulation therapy with low molecular weight heparins at therapeutic doses during 5 days followed bhy dabigatran etexilate at a dose of 150 mg twice daily, and wearing compression stockings of class II. Patients of group 2 (n = 23) were managed with the use of intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) therapy in addition to the standard treatment. The conventional anticoagulation therapy for the patients of group 3 (n = 29) was supplemented by IPC and the phlebotropic preparation of diosmin-hesperidine . The effectiveness of each therapeutic modality was evaluated within 6 and 12 months after the onset of the treatment based on the Villialt scale. Results. The effectiveness of the treatment evaluated based on the Villalta scale within 12 months after the onset of therapy amounted in the patients of group 1 to 10.13 on the average (standard deviation 3.14). For the patients of groups 2 and 3, it averaged 7.71 (standard deviation 3.15) and 4.96 (standard deviation 2.47) respectively. The differences between the three groups were statistically significant. The study has demonstrated that the introduction of intermittent pneumatic compression in the scheme of the combined treatment of the patients suffering from deep venous thrombosis significantly improved the immediate outcome of the therapy even though this beneficial effect was only a short-term one. The application of the phlebotropic preparation of diosmin-hesperidine made it possible to prolong the action of IPC and reduce the severity of the post-thrombotic syndrome in both qualitative and quantitative terms. Conclusion. The introduction of intermittent pneumatic compression and the phlebotropic preparation of diosmin-hesperidine in the scheme of the combined treatment of the patients presenting with proximal thrombosis of deep veins of the lower extremities makes it possible to significantly reduce the severity of the post-thrombotic syndrome.
