There are obstacles to the efficacious organization and control of prophylaxis of venous thromboembolic complications in large hospitals. The authors propose a new approach to the organization of prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism implemented in the Primorskaya Regional Clinical Hospital № 1, Vladivostok, based on the use of the DOCA+ clinical information system. The work was carried out in the framework of the project "Venous thromboembolic complication safety zone". The retrospective analysis of medical histories of the patients hospitalized in 2007-2009 showed that the frequency of postoperative thromboembolic complications was 9 cases in 2007, 11 in 2008 and 18 in 2009 despite treatment in compliance with normative documents. Some entries concerning risk estimation and prescription of prophylactic therapy are absent in the histories. Physicians appear to underestimate the risk of VTEC and prescribe an incomplete course of prophylactic treatment, with its duration being at variance with the existing standard. We introduced the DOCA+ clinical information system allowing for the complete personified inventory of medications and medical equipment, provision of medical personnel with modern convenient instruments for clinical work, maintenance of the required level of treatment and examination, and keeping electronic medical records. Analysis of lethality and structure of postoperative complications revealed a single case of VTEC due to the introduction of prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism with the use of the DOCA+ clinical information system.
