Goals. Evaluate the merits and demerits of laparoscopic gastric plication in the treatment of patients with morbid obesity. Materials and methods. In total, from 2015 to the present, 16 patients were under surveillance who underwent laparoscopic gastric plication. In the examined group there were 2 men (age 39±2 years, BMI=41.2±0.7 kg/m²) and 14 women (age 38.6±7.4 years, BMI=42.5±3.1). The main indication for the operation was a BMI> 35 kg/m². Exclusion criteria: pregnancy, previous operations on the stomach, abdominal hernia, decompensated type 2 diabetes, oncology, mental illness, age younger than 18 years. All operations were performed by one surgeon (R.G. Askerkhanov). Results. The average duration of the operation was 1.2±0.3 h, the average length of stay in the hospital was 2.7±0.5 days. The efficacy of the operation was assessed by the change in BMI and % EWL before surgery (men 41.2±0.7, women 42.5±3.1), 3 (men 38.2±0.4, 33.9±0.9, Women 40.7±2.3, 34.7±1.6) and 6 months after the operation (men 35.2±1.1, 38.7±0.7, women 34.6±1.9, 40,2±2.1). Conclusions. The experience of using gastric plication in 16 obese patients has formed a restrained-positive attitude to this operation. The absence of any complications is quite typical for this technically simple method. Weight loss in the vast majority of patients indicates its effectiveness. However, dyspeptic disorders, unstable result and negative dynamics in weight correction in some patients require further study of this method.
