Among 195 patients with diabetes mellitus 104 underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy and 91 - conventional cholecyst­ectomy for gallstone disease and acute cholecystitis. Among 104 patients conversion to laparotomy took place in 4 (3.8%) patients. Postoperative complications in patients operated laparoscopically were observed in 6 cases including subhepatic abscess in 2 (2.5%) patients and wound abscess in 4 (3.8%) cases. In group of patients after cholecystectomy through laparotomy complications developed in 10 cases: intraabdominal abscess in 2 (2.2%) patients, eventration in 1 (1.1%) patient and wound abscess in 5 (5.5%) patients. No extraabdominal complications were noted after laparoscopic cholecystectomy while rate of extraabdominal complications after conventional cholecystectomy comprised 2.2% in the form of massive pulmonary embolism in 1 case and myocardial infarction with severe heart rhythm disorder and acute heart failure in 1 patient. Postoperative mortality in group of patients after conventional cholecystectomy amounted to 2.2% whereas laparoscopic cholecystectomy were associated with no deaths. Results of comparative analysis shows that endovideosurgical technique for treatment of gallstone disease and acute cholecystitis in diabetics has advantages over conventional surgery. No mortality was observed, statistically significant reduction in time of operation and degree of intraoperative hemorrhage was marked, considerable lowering of postoperative complications and cutdown in length of hospital stay were noted.
