Clinical case of the 64-year-old patient with Zenker’s diverticulum complicated by esophageal cancer is presented. The patient with a sore throat, dysphagia both to solids and liquids, food impaction, foreign body sensation when swallowing, discomfort in the neck, regurgitation was admitted to the hospital for further examination. Zenker’s diverticulum was diagnosed based on an X-ray. An endoscopic examination of the Zenker’s diverticulum revealed an ulcerative defect of 8x9 mm in size with smooth edges, swollen and infiltrated, mucous infiltration, and hyperemia in the spur area. According to pathology, highly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma was diagnosed. There were no lymph nodes or distant metastasis. The operation (a wedge-shaped resection of the esophagus with a tumor and diverticulum) was performed. No postoperative complications were presented. Eighteen days after the operation, the patient was discharged.

CONCLUSION

A multidisciplinary approach in diagnosing and treating patients with malignant tumors of Zenker’s diverticulum allows them to achieve good clinical results. Timely diagnosis is a crucial component of the treatment.
