To study the influence of gut microbiota on formation of chronic pain syndrome.
We analyzed available literature data in the Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed and Embase databases using certain keywords (gut-brain axis, intestinal microbiome, chronic pain).
Modern available data devoted to relationship between intestinal microbiota, activity of central nervous system and formation of chronic pain were analyzed. The modern concept of “intestinal microbiome-gut-brain axis” was described. We considered the mechanisms of “intestinal microbiome-gut-brain axis” and the main neurotransmitters. Information on the influence of intestinal microbiota in formation of pain syndrome was obtained.
The theory of influence of gut microbiota on chronic pain syndrome allows development of new approaches to the treatment of chronic pain syndromes. The last ones are based on current knowledge about intestinal microbiota and its effect on central nervous system.
