OBJECTIVE

To study clinical features of hysterical disorders in patients with hematological diseases.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A prospective study of patients with confirmed hematological diseases and psychopathological hysterical disorders. Of the 373 patients examined during the study for psychiatric disorders, 108 patients who met the criteria of the present study were identified. The study employed a clinical and psychopathological method with the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE).

RESULTS

The following psychopathological disorders were identified in the studied patients: depressive episode in 29.6% (n=32), somatoform disorders in 19.5% (n=21), dissociative [conversion] disorders in 7.4% (n=8), nightmares in 6.5% (n=7), and other specified anxiety disorders in 33.3% (n=36). Among the features of the psychopathological disorders under consideration are the reduction of clinical manifestations and a pronounced asthenic background with associated hysterical disorders due to a severe somatic condition and side effects of chemotherapeutic drugs.

CONCLUSION

Psychopathological hysterical disorders, manifesting in patients with hematological diseases, are one of the reasons for the deviation from the treatment protocols for such patients. Psychopharmaceuticals are used in the minimum effective dose for the treatment of the non-psychotic disorders under consideration; if necessary, the doses are increased to an appropriate level for the psychopathological disorder. In some cases, psychopharmacotherapy is combined with psychotherapy interventions.
