Abstract:

Melatonin (MT) is a hormone with various biological activities. Multiple biological regulatory effects inherent in MT involve this hormone in adaptive reactions and pathogenesis of various diseases. To date, impaired MT release following exposure to light at night is observed in many people. Despite modern data on properties and significance of melatonin, as well as therapy of certain diseases, a little attention is paid to this hormone in health-resort rehabilitation. We analyzed available literature data on melatonin as a component of diagnostic or therapeutic measures in health-resort rehabilitation. Analysis of serum MT and its application at the health-resort stage of treatment remain sporadic and not systematic. Considering the role of MT human health and active longevity of citizens in our country, it seems relevant to introduce analysis of melatonin into standard examination schemes during health-resort treatment, to establish functional connections between MT and characteristics of diseases, as well as to develop schemes for MT in therapy.
