Teaching otorhinolaryngology, as a discipline, began in the Primorsky region on the basis of the Vladivostok Medical Institute, where the chair of the faculty surgery was invited a graduate of the Khabarovsk Medical Institute V.M. Shevtsov, a student of Professor V.S. Lyande. Through the efforts of V.M. Shevtsov from scratch for several years has established the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, launched the educational, methodical, scientific process, and established medical-advisory work. For the first time in the Primorsky region in the clinic began performed- operation on the larynx, various options for surgical treatment of otosclerosis. In different years the department was headed by R.P. Menyakin, G.T. Obydennikov V.B. Ichenko, E.A. Gilifanov.
