Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the divergence of the mid palatal suture and compare different methods of expansion at the dentoalveolar and skeletal level in patients with maxillary narrowing.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Twenty patients with maxillary narrowing were operated on. Group I (n=10) SARPE/DOME was performed. Group II (n=10) MARPE was performed. Also CBCT before, at the end of distraction and after 6 months.

RESULTS

In the SARPE/DOME group, the divergence of the medial palatal suture was 100% (10/10) and 60% (6/10) for the MARPE group, respectively. The SARPE/DOME group showed a significant increase in basal maxilla and PM-NW, M-MW scores than the MARPE group.

CONCLUSIONS

Patients with completed ossification of the mid palatal suture, the most effective method of treatment is the SARPE/DOME distraction method of maxillary expansion.
