There is little doubt that the quality of life directly depends on the state of the dentofacial system as a most important one that affects all functions of the human body. The analysis of the data contained in the literature publications revealed the universally accepted approach to the general evaluation of the quality of the patients’ life based on a variety of questionnaires making it possible to evaluate this characteristic. Aim. The objective of the present work was to carry out a questionnaire study involving the patients of different age and sex in need of orthopedic dental care with the purpose of evaluating the influence of dental pathology and the results of its orthopedic treatment on various aspects of the quality of life of the patients depending on their age and gender. Material and methods. We made use of the validated Russian-language version of the OHIP-14 questionnaire (Slade G.D., 1995) modified and adapted to the conditions of our dental orthopedics clinic. It was employed to evaluate the stomatological status of 109 patients (74 women and 35 men) allocated to five age groups as recommended by WHO. Group 1 was comprised of the patients at the age between 21 and 30 years, group 2 included the patients aged from 31 to 40 years, group 3 consisted of the patients at the age between 41 and 50 years, groups 4 and 5 were composed of the patients aged from 51 to 60 years and above 60 years respectively. Results. 24 (22.02%) patients including 15.6% of the women have lost the ability to taste food as a results of the prosthetic problems. 28 (25,67%) respondents complained of pain sensation caused by the denture (18,35% of them were women). 34 (31,19%) patients regularly experienced eating difficulties while 23 (21,10%) ones reported the impairment of communication and social interaction skills attributable to the difficulty of uttering words. Slightly more than 10% of the patients experiencing denture problems responded that they interfered with relaxation and repose thereby making life less interesting. 11 (10,09%) respondents encountered difficulties as regards their routine professional occupation even though very few of them totally fall out of life (rarely: 5.51%, practically never: 8.26%). Conclusion. The quality of life of the patients presenting with dental problems referred to the age groups between 51 and 60 years and above 60 years following the orthopedic treatment remained at an equally low level whereas the respondents of group 1 aged from 21 to 30 years enjoyed the highest quality of life as evidenced by their rare application for the dental orthopedic aid. It is noteworthy that the women oftener sought the dentist’s assistance than men and suffered more inconveniences when wearing dentures.
