This article was designed to report the results of the investigations into the relationships between inflammation markers in the oral fluid from the patients presenting with chronic generalized periodontitis and the main clinical manifestations of this pathology. Materials and methods. A total of 79 subjects were available for the examination of whom 10 ones had no periodontal pathology and 69 presented with chronic generalized periodontitis. Unstimulated oral fluid was used to determine the levels of the following proteins: MMP-2, MMP-8, MMP-9, IL-1 beta, tumour necrosis factor-alpha. The inflammation markers were determined with the use of the standard kits for immunoenzymatic assays as indicated by the manufacturers’ labeling. Results. The results of the study confirm the high informative value of such biochemical indices as MMP-2, MMP-8, and MMP-9 levels in the oral fluid. Conclusion. The MMP-2, MMP-8, and MMP-9 content in the oral fluid of the patients presenting with chronic generalized periodontitis is inter-related with the major clinical manifestations of this pathological condition.
