The antibacterial effect of photodynamic therapy can be used for the treatment of inflammatory periodontal diseases including combined treatment of moderately severe chronic generalized periodontitis. The authors describe a method of photodynamic therapy for the management of the patients presenting with moderately severe chronic generalized periodontitis with the use of two different approaches corresponding to the respective algorithms of photodynamic therapy. The outcomes of the treatment were evaluated based on the results of clinical examination undertaken immediately after the treatment and during the prolonged post-therapy follow-up period.
